The Shared Visions Art Exhibit

Shared Visions LogoThe Southern California College of Optometry annually presents the Shared Visions Art Exhibit at the Eye Care Center.  This seven-year old, juried art exhibit features artwork from blind and visually impaired artists from around the world.  Shared Visions celebrates the artistic achievements of these inspirational artists who continue to create in a visual realm, focusing on their abilities and talents. The Exhibit, one of only four such art exhibitions of its kind in the United States, is open to the public at SCCO's Eye Care Center at 2575 Yorba Linda Blvd., Fullerton, CA 92831 and is open during Eye Care Center operational hours for an 11-month period each year.

Founders

It started as a way to bring interest and color to the blank walls of the renovated Eye Care Center at the Southern California College of Optometry.  A patient with partial sight, who earned his living as a fashion photographer, suggested an art exhibit, one that would showcase the works of blind and/or partially-sighted artists.  As talks continued to bring this idea to fruition, it became clear that whatever evolved would have an educational component at its core.

The result – art and patient care education have come together as the Shared Visions Art Exhibit.  The three individuals, or Founders of the Shared Visions Art Exhibit are:  Artist Kurt Weston; Chief, Mary Ann Keverline Walls Low Vision Rehabilitation Center, Eye Care Center, SCCO, Rebecca L. Kammer, O.D.; and Abbott Medical Optics, Inc., represented by David W. Hansen, O.D., Head, Global Professional Services.

Call for Entries for the 2012-2013 Shared Visions Art Exhibit

The Eye Care Center at the Southern California College of Optometry is happy to announce the Call for Entries for its annual Shared Visions Art Exhibit 2012-2013.

This special art exhibit, in which all of the artwork has been created by artists who are blind or severely visually impaired, has been so well received by the community and the local media that the Eye Care Center will be continuing the tradition for the eighth year.

The deadline date for submissions is May 16, 2012. All submissions will be juried, with acceptance notifications sent to the artists by the week of June 25, 2012. We expect greater competition this year, as the reputation of this inspiring show grows.

Shared Vision 2011-2012

The Seventh Annual Shared Visions Art Exhibit opened on Tuesday, October 25, 2011.  This art exhibit, housed in the Southern California College of Optometry's Eye Care Center, provides a venue for the artwork of blind and legally blind artists to showcase their abilities, rather than disabilities.  The annual art exhibit also provides a way for SCCO's doctors and optometric interns to educate the public about eye diseases, visual impairment and vision rehabilitation.
