Primary Eye Care - General, Geriatric and Pediatric Services

This department provides comprehensive vision and eye health evaluations for patients of all ages, beginning in infancy. The purpose of this examination is to diagnosis and treat problems that can cause blurry vision and eye discomfort as well as eye health disorders. For children, comprehensive exams also help detect vision-related problems that may contribute to poor school performance and interfere with normal vision development.

Our examinations are comprehensive and thorough. We use a variety of technologies to assist in performing evaluations for glasses prescriptions, eye health, peripheral vision, intraocular pressure (eye pressure), and eye tracking, focusing, and teaming abilities. Our testing procedures are designed to evaluate the patient and check for conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, and other general health disorders such as diabetes, high blood pressure, and the effects of medications. Depending on the patient age and as appropriate, we also assess vision development.

The American Optometric Association recommends that all adults have a comprehensive eye examination every one to two years. A dilated eye examination should be done at the initial eye examination to properly assess the eye health and thereafter on a scheduled basis depending on the particular needs of the patient. Children should have an eye exam at the age of 6 months, 3 years, upon entering kindergarten, and routine vision care every 2 years thereafter throughout their school years.
