The first day of school is just around the corner, and most parents are busily making their way through a list
of “to-dos”: school clothes shopping, appointments for immunizations and physicals, and trips to the store for
pencils, pens, paper and all the other “must-haves” for the classroom—all with the intention of getting students
Ready for School.

Is a visit to the optometrist on your list? A comprehensive eye examination for students is one of the most
important “to-dos” and yet one that is often overlooked. Without an eye exam, many children have vision
problems that remain undiagnosed, and may even be misdiagnosed as a learning disorder.

$50,000 Gift Names McCarty Center at Eye Care Center

Dr. Rebecca Kammer and Kathryn McCarty cut the ribbon to the technology center at the recent Dedication Ceremony.

Kathryn T. McCarty has a bevy of friends and associates in the Fullerton community. Many of her philanthropic interests have been sparked by her altruistic approach to life and her experience with friends and non-profit organizations. She has several close friends with macular degeneration and a technology center bearing her name will aid those with this and other sight-robbing conditions.

"I want to help those in need," she said when asked why she made a gift of $50,000 to fund the Kathryn T. McCarty Adaptive Technology Center at the Eye Care Center, Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO) in Fullerton. The gift will extend the mission of the Mary Ann Keverline Walls Low Vision Rehabilitation Center at the Eye Care Center by providing additional means for independent living.
