| Dr. Kenneth E. Brookman is the Associate Dean for Academic Affairs at the Southern California College of Optometry (SCCO) and holds the rank of Professor. He is also the instructor of didactic courses in ocular refraction, assessment of binocular vision, and case analysis and prescribing. Dr. Brookman earned his Bachelor of Science and Doctor of Optometry degrees at the Southern California College of Optometry in 1971 and 1973 respectively. Following a year of private practice, he entered the graduate program in physiological optics at Indiana University earning a Master of Science degree in 1975 and a Doctor of Philosophy degree in 1980. He has been a full-time member of the faculty at SCCO since 1980. In addition, Dr. Brookman earned a Master of Public Health degree from the University of California, Los Angeles in 1988 while on sabbatical leave. Dr. Brookman has published 17 papers, abstracts, case reports, and book reviews. In addition, he edited and co-authored a book entitled Refractive Management of Ametropia that was published in 1996. Dr. Brookman is a Fellow of the American Academy of Optometry and Diplomate in the Low Vision Section. He also is a member of the Commission on Ophthalmic Standards of the American Optometric Association. Dr. Brookman has been a member of the Refractive Conditions Examination Committee of the National Board of Examiners in Optometry and served as chair of that committee. Dr. Brookman is currently an optometry officer in the United States Army Reserve and holds the rank of Colonel. He joined the military reserve as a member of the California Army National Guard in 1976 and transferred to the Army Reserve in 1986. He is a graduate of the Army Medical Departments Officer Advanced Course, and the Command and General Staff Officer Course. |
